How do I sign up?

Signing up is easy. Go to our Request More Info page and submit a request, and you will be contacted by an agent within one business day. Or you can call us at (801) 373-SAVE and set up an appointment. After you contact us, we take care of all the details. Once you’ve made a decision to start the plans, the process only takes a few minutes.

When should I sign up?

The Maternity Plans must be in place at least 10 months before you have the baby, so we recommend starting them 2-3 months before you try to get pregnant (in case your baby comes early).

Should I call an agent?

Why not? Websites are great, but they can’t answer every question or give the personal touch that our agents can offer. Our job is to make sure you have the information for your individual circumstances so that the right coverage is in place for you and your baby. We are also available to help you when it’s time to make claims.

Are the Maternity Plans an insurance policy?

Yes. More specifically, they are supplemental “indemnity” policies (indemnity policies differ from most other insurance plans in that they pay the patient directly, not the doctor or hospital). They are designed to fill in the gaps left open by your major medical plan (e.g. deductibles, coinsurance, missed pay from work, etc.). Although we call them “Maternity Plans,” they are really “Hospital Indemnity Plans” which means they pay benefits anytime you’re hospitalized, including, of course, when you deliver your baby.

Do the plans really pay me cash?

Actually, you get a check. But the point is the money is paid to you for you use any way you like: You can use the money to pay medical bills, buy baby accessories, take a trip, or anything else you want.

How is the benefit amount determined?

Our Maternity/Hospital Indemnity Plans pay a “scheduled benefit” (i.e. a flat, pre-specified amount) for being admitted to the hospital. They also pay a flat amount for each day you stay in the hospital, and for surgical procedures performed (including vaginal and cæsarean deliveries). For example, if you choose Plan 2 and then have a normal (vaginal) delivery and spend two days in the hospital following delivery (which is typical) with no complications, you would get the following benefits:
•    Initial Hospitalization Benefit: $1,500.

•    Daily Hospital Confinement Benefit: $550 (each day).

•    Surgical Benefit: Vaginal Delivery: $500.

Your total benefit would be $3,100. In addition you could also make claims for physician visits. See the policy documents and outline of coverage for more benefits.

Once I make a claim, how hard is it to get the cash benefit?

It’s very easy. For Physician Visit benefits, simply complete the claim form and mail it in. No other documentation is needed. For Hospital benefits, fax the complete the claim form along with an itemized hospital billing statement to the claims department. The whole process should only take a few minutes. Call us if you have any questions and we can walk you through the process.

How long does it take to get the cash benefit?

Not long at all. We usually pay claims within four to ten days after you fax in the claim.

I already have other insurance. Why should I buy the Maternity Plans?

Our Maternity Plans pay the same benefits regardless of any other insurance you have in place. And the fact is, most insurance plans leave you with plenty of out-of-pocket costs including your deductible, coinsurance costs, and copays, not to mention missed pay from work while you are in the hospital (and missed pay for your spouse while he’s visiting you there). Our plans are designed to work alongside your existing major medical plan to help pay the expenses your other insurance won’t cover. And even if your major medical covers 100% of your maternity costs, think of the cute baby clothes you could buy with the benefits from our Maternity Plans, or the trip to grandma’s, or all the diapers…

Is it a good idea to buy the Maternity Plans and cancel my major
medical insurance?

No! We encourage you to always keep a good major medical plan in place with our Maternity Plans because our plans are NOT major medical insurance and are NOT intended to replace any insurance you already have.

Do I have to use certain doctors or hospitals?

No. You can go to any doctor any hospital nationwide (must be in the USA). Just use the facilities that your major medical insurance plan uses.

This sounds too good to be true. Why would any company take my $100/month and then pay me $3,100?

Good point. No insurance company wants to lose money, and several supplemental insurance companies have stopped offering their plans in Utah. However, there are thousands of people paying for supplemental indemnity plans who will never use them for maternity, and the biggest company offering supplemental indemnity plans earns more than $10 Billion each year. Its policies cover maternity (once the plans have been in place for 10 months) the same as any other hospital stay, and the company is not going to change plans which it sells worldwide just because some people buy them with maternity in mind.

We only offer what is in the company’s policy agreement and always stay strictly within the company’s own guidelines. We also encourage you to look at the benefits of keeping these indemnity policies as part of your long-term insurance portfolio.

Can I cancel the Maternity Plans at any time?

Yes, the policies are purchased month to month, but again, we strongly encourage you to consider keeping these benefits as part of your long-term insurance portfolio.

Can I use the Maternity Plans if I move?

Yes. Our plans are completely portable and will move with you from state to state. However, when moving to a new state, don’t let your Maternity Plans lapse because you closed your bank account and forgot to transfer the payments to your new bank. You will also need to make sure your major medical insurance will move with you. If an out of state move is a possibility while you’re pregnant, call us and we’ll help you plan your insurance accordingly.

So What’s the Catch?

These are really very simple, straightforward plans. But there are ways to miss out on getting the benefits even though you pay all the premiums:

•    Deliver during the first 10 months of the plan. If you deliver early, you will NOT
get the benefit.

•    Deliver outside of a Hospital. These are HOSPITAL Indemnity Plans. If you deliver at a birthing center or at home, you will NOT get the benefit.

•    Deliver at a hospital, but stay less than 24 hours. The benefits for hospitalization are payable once you have been in for at least 24 hours. Typically moms stay for 48 hours after childbirth. But if you stay less than 24 hours, you will NOT get the benefit.

•    Stop paying your premium before your hospitalization. Policy must be in force when you deliver. If you let your policy lapse, you will NOT get the benefit.

•    Deliver outside the United States. You must deliver in the US to get the benefit.

•    Enroll in a Medicaid or a Title XIX Program. All benefits are then paid to Medicaid, not you.

Just plan ahead and you will receive the benefits you’re paying for.
